What is Mad Mel Movement?

Mad Mel Movement is a fitness culture founded in encouragement and aroha. Everybody is welcome and everyone can belong. It can be daunting to join a gym, but we share your worries or fears about the fitness journey together. We walk beside each other until we can run together.

Here we celebrate our wins and we pick each other up on the days there is no physical or mental motivation.

Most importantly, MMM was born to get people in the community moving and feeling stronger and healthier than ever before. Moving is fantastic for the body and it is even more beneficial for the mind.

Classes

We are offering a variety of classes that are focused on a mix of cardio, growing muscular endurance, strength training, plyometrics, flexibility and mobility, gymnastics, conditioning, along with dance aerobic. Come and find something that suits your objectives!

Personal Training

Train one on one with Mel – perhaps a class is too daunting, or you want to take your training to the next level. Sit down for an assessment with Mel for an individual programme. One hour sessions. Enquire for prices and times available.

Open Gym

Perhaps you're a seasoned athlete or you've been training/hitting the gym for a long time and just want a space to do your thang and continue to make those gains! Book into Open Gym to come and workout on your own when the doors are open. Epic gear for you to keep doing you!

Who the Heck is Mad Mel?

I grew up just over the hill in, what used to be, small Mangawhai. My mother and siblings moved over to New Zealand when I was just a little rugrat. We were born in Papua New Guinea where my mother is from, before she met a kiwi bloke and moved back to Aotearoa and we came straight to beautiful Northland.

I went to a local high school Otamatea in Maungaturoto, and eventually ventured to the mighty Waikato for University where I studied and graduated with a BA in Screen and Media and Communications. I spent my second year of university on an exchange in sunny San Diego, California in the United States, which was an independent experience that grew me a lot.

Coming back to New Zealand I was very overweight and my eating habits had gotten really out of control. I was unhappy and depressed about my appearance, and decided after graduation when I moved to Auckland after accepting my first full time job that I was going to make a change. I never looked back. I have walked it, I have had low days, I have had days where you just don’t want to keep moving or trying. Fitness and becoming happy in the skin you’re in truly isn’t about the weight loss. Sure, it is part of the process, but it is the process itself that changes us from the inside out.

There is no perfect time to start and there's no perfect formula, it's just about choosing to show up. Day in. Day out. Each week. Each year. MMM is not about the summer bod, MMM is about being happy with you and where you’re at on your journey in every season of your life. We are cross functional fitness that will translate to your everyday life tasks, where you can come unapologetically, learn and get the tools you need to continue on that journey, or even just start! There is no embarrassment, you WILL be challenged but you will never feel incapable.

I am here to support you and get you where you’re going and we can have some mega laughs along the way! I am a Qualified Level 4 Personal Trainer from the New Zealand Health and Fitness Institute. You are in safe hands and we will get the absolute best results for you in the most efficient and safest manner possible. I believe in fitness longevity, to have you moving for life, not overloading to cause injuries.

That is my passion and that is why I started MMM – to watch people flourish and get better physically, but also mentally and emotionally. We are all doing our best! That is enough for me. So come and have a chat – see if there isn’t a gem here for you!
